Gebstedt onshore wind farm to be built in cooperation between PNE and EDF power solutions Deutschland

  • Joint wind energy project by EDF power solutions and PNE in the Weimarer Land region
  • Wind farm can supply around 14,400 three-person households with green electricity every year
  • Outlook for the construction phase of the four turbines

Work recently began on the construction of the Gebstedt wind farm. The turbine sites are located on agricultural land in the municipalities of Ilmtal-Weinstraße, Apolda and Bad Sulza in the Weimarer Land district. A total of four wind turbines will be erected here, which will have a combined output of around 16.8 MW and will be able to supply 14,400 three-person households with green electricity every year once commissioned (based on an average annual consumption of 3,720 kWh per household; source: BDEW, 2021)

The project is being developed jointly by EDF power solutions Deutschland and a company of the PNE Group, which operated under the name WKN for large parts of the project. Both partners have many years of experience in the development of renewable energy projects.

‘The cooperation with EDF power solutions has been characterised by openness and a solution-oriented approach right from the start,’ says Sven Hünefeld, Project Manager at PNE. ‘The fact that we are now starting the construction phase together is an important milestone - for us and for the region.’

‘The project is now moving from the development phase to the construction phase - we are delighted to be making visible progress,’ adds Frank Villabella, EPC Manager Onshore Wind at EDF power solutions. ‘It is a good example of a constructive cooperation in the expansion of renewable energies.’

Technical data

  • Number: 4 WTGs
  • Manufacturer: Vestas
  • Type: V150
  • Hub height: 166 m
  • Total height: 238.5 m
  • Rotor diameter: 150 m
  • Nominal output per WTG: 4.2 MW
  • Total nominal output: 16.8 MW
  • CO₂ savings: 40,000 tonnes (based on average values for emissions avoidance through wind energy; source: BWE, 2021)

Outlook for the construction phase
The preparatory work on the wind farm - including road construction, laying the foundations and laying the cables for the grid connection - has been successfully completed. This has laid the foundation for the erection of the turbines.

The large components of all four wind turbines have already been delivered to the project site and are ready for assembly. Construction of the first turbine has begun and the remaining three turbines will be installed in a staggered sequence, each at intervals of around two to three weeks. The aim is to complete all turbines in the fourth quarter of 2025 so that the entire wind farm can then be commissioned - subject to suitable weather conditions.

The entire construction process will be accompanied by ecological construction monitoring to ensure that all work is carried out in compliance with nature conservation and species protection regulations. This includes monitoring and respecting protection periods, measures to prevent damage to sensitive habitats and expert advice to the construction management on ecological issues.
